Your makeup is done and you’re ready to head out the door. But on your way out you catch a glimpse of an obvious difference between your neck and face giving you that dreaded foundation line. UGH! Has this happened to you? Do you have a hard time finding foundation to match your skin? Personally, my neck is lighter in color than my face so it’s very easy for my face to look too dark. This is can be so frustrating! If you could custom blend your own foundation to match your skin tone, would you?

Introducing CoverGirl Custom Blend Foundation.

CoverGirl’s Custom Blend Foundation gives you your perfect foundation shade.

How Does It Work?

Use the Custom Blend app to scan your face and analyze color, intensity and undertone. The app gives each factor a number indicating your blend. You even get to customize your bottle, order and ship it right from the app.

My Thoughts:

App: The app was easy to use and the process was very interesting, although I felt a little silly scanning myself.

Packaging: I like the box it came in and the bottle itself. It was fun designing the bottle as well!

Formula: I really like the formula- it’s smooth and applies well.  It’s not a matte finish but it lasts pretty well throughout the day.

Overall: My only complaint is that in certain lighting (like natural light) it does seem a little off. But I spend most of my time indoors and am able to blend it into my neck and other makeup just fine.

The package even came with these cards that further explain my blend and suggests lip colors that compliment my shade.

Color Matching:

When finding a new foundation color, it’s  recommended to try 3 different shades. Apply a small dot of each along your jaw line and blend into your skin.  Choose the foundation that disappears. Meaning, the one that is least noticeable on your skin.

Blending Tips:

-use a concealer and powder to lighten a deeper color or a lighter powder may do the trick

-use a bronzer or deeper powder to darken a lighter makeup color.

-I like to use a small amount or drag whatever foundation is left on my brush/sponge just past my jaw line. I go over this area with my big fluffy powder brush when applying powder allover.  Then, I apply the same bronzer I’m using on my face along the side my neck and under my chin with a fluffy bronzing brush. These areas are shown below. This helps eliminate a line or difference in color. It may sound weird to put makeup on your neck  but you do what you gotta do, right?  Like I said, I use a small amount. Side note: I usually do this in the winter when I haven’t self tanned and my skin is extra pale.  My neck is at least a shade lighter than my face so even if something matches my face well, it can look strange compared to my neck so this trick really helps.

-a fluffy brush makes blending so much easier! Here is one I love for powder (it actually opens up and is bigger when I use it).
